How to play Bluff: rules and scoring

  • 52-card deck
  • Dealt evenly

Goal: Be the first to get rid of all your cards.

Setup

  • The player with the ace of spades, or whoever the table picks, starts.

How to play

  1. On your turn, play one or more cards face down and say what they are (e.g. “two sevens”).
  2. The ranks go up in order: aces, twos, threes…
  3. You don’t have to tell the truth.
  4. If anyone calls “Bluff!”, the cards are turned over.
  5. A liar picks up the whole pile, and so does the challenger if the claim was true.

Scoring

  • The first to empty their hand wins the hand and scores 1 point.
  • Alternatively, everyone else writes down the number of cards they still hold as a penalty.

Winning

The first to win the agreed number of hands (e.g. 5) wins; or, after the agreed number of hands, the lowest penalty wins.
